6.2 Quake Shakes Oregon Coast Early Wednesday

A 6.2 magnitude earthquake was recorded off the coast of Oregon just after 1:30 am early Wednesday morning.

The United States Geological Survey says the quake was centered 170 miles west of Coos Bay, at a depth of about 6 miles on the Blanco Fracture Zone, the boundary between the Juan de Fuca and the Pacific tectonic plates.

At least two aftershocks of 3.5 and another of 3.2 were recorded at 3:10 a.m. and 3:24 a.m.

The USGS says no tsunami threat was generated with the quake and was reported by people in the coastal towns Coos Bay, Florence, and Coquille, as well as people as far away as Portland, 280 miles to the northeast.
