Early Tuesday morning, just after 3:30am, the Grants Pass Department of Public Services Dispatch received a suspicious activity call of a male subject pushing a vehicle down Hamilton Lane near Fruitdale Drive. A Grants Pass Department of Public Service Officer arrived in a marked police vehicle. The male subject fled on foot with a German Shepard.
The man refused to obey lawful commands to stop as he left his vehicle, partially in the roadway, creating a hazard. The Officer gave chase as other police units were responding. The male subject ran into a backyard on Axtell Drive. He eventually abandoned his German Shepard in one of the yards and began jumping fences towards Fruitdale Drive. The male subject was positively identified as the registered owner of the vehicle, Ricky McCord, a 59 year-old Grants Pass resident.
Dispatch received a call of a male subject who broke into a basement below their residence in the 1600 block of Fruitdale Drive. When confronted by the homeowner, the male stated he was law enforcement and was armed. The additional Police units established a perimeter as the male subject ran and jumped more fences. Due to the nature of this incident and the statements the male subject was armed, it was decided to summon a Police K9.
Once the GPDPS K9 unit arrived, it did not take long to locate the male subject. He still refused commands and was apprehended by the K9. The male was taken into custody and treated at TRMC for the K9 apprehension. The male subject was later lodged at the Josephine County Jail on numerous charges to include Burglary in the 1st Degree, Interfering with a Peace Officer, and Criminal Trespass. Case # 2019-26324
