5 Year Old Autistic Boy Missing Since Saturday, Found Deceased

Five year old Joshua McCoy had been missing since the late Saturday, evening November 9th, after North Coos dispatch received its first reports of the missing boy via third party at 6:27pm.

It has been reported that the boys mother discovered the young autistic boy missing from their Stage Rd. address at approximately 5:30pm, after napping together Saturday afternoon. 

First responders arrived on scene at approximately 6:45pm and it was discovered the child had a cellphone, and a phone-ping of that phone was conducted, however, the information related to the phone-ping did not provide any fruitful information.  

Several Deputies began a search of the property, while investigating the allegations of Joshua being picked up by a known family member which was later found not be factual. An ‘Attempt To Locate’was sent out to all surrounding agencies.  

Deputies continued to search the property and surrounding areas on Sunday, November 10th, along with several volunteers from Coos County Search and Rescue including K9 units, ground and Drone operators and a pond on the property was drained and nothing of interest was located.  

During Sunday’s search, additional resources were requested from neighboring counties in southern Oregon and northern California. Law enforcement remained on scene until the following crews arrived in the morning to continue the investigation.  

At approximately 6:00am, on Monday, November 11th, Deputies and Search and Rescue volunteers continued the search and rescue operation assisted by several members of local fire departments who arrived to assist in the search.

Additional assistance was requested for the next day, which consisted of search and rescue members from several Counties within Oregon and California.  

On Tuesday, November 12th, the search continued with help from our federal partners, local Search and Rescue, and at approximately 12:30pm, Joshua was discovered deceased approximately 1.6 miles, and almost 2 miles by road from the child’s residence.  

The Joshua McCoy investigation is remains ongoing. No one is in custody and the cause of death remains unknown. .
