30,000 acre Taylor Creek Fire 10 miles from Grants Pass

1,022 firefighters continue making good progress securing the southeastern edge of the now 29,551 acre Taylor Creek Fire just 10 miles from Grants Pass.

On the northeastern corner of the fire, near Green Tree Loop, crews are using firing operations and dozers to halt the fire spread to the east. Engines and infrared aircraft monitor the fire throughout the night to ensure it does not cross the Rogue River.

On the northern perimeter, the fire backed down to the Galice Road near Indian Mary Park. Helicopters dropped water on pockets of concentrated heat in this area to prevent the fire from making uphill runs.

Firefighters are preparing structures along Bear Camp Road as the fire continues to spread west. Oregon State Fire Marshal structure protection groups continue to assess and prepare structure to the north and east of the fire.

Evacuation levels were downgraded for residents on Riverbanks Road form Shan Creed Road to Robertson Bridge, however, multiple evacuations are in place. Fire managers are continuously monitoring the situation and the Josephine County Sheriff’s Office adjust evacuation levels as necessary.
