3 Arrested after Rogue Valley Mall Carjacking

Just before 7:30 pm Sunday night, January 5th, Medford Police were dispatched to the Rogue Valley Mall regarding a vehicle theft that had just occurred. The victim reported he was near his idling 1999 Honda Civic, when he was approached by three suspects in the upper-level parking lot of the Rogue Valley Mall.

One of the suspects asked the victim for a hug and the victim complied. 23-year-old Cheyenne Cortez, allegedly then pushed the victim to the ground, and the three suspects stole his vehicle.

At 7:42pm Jackson Sheriff’s Office deputies were dispatched to a serious traffic collision at Bigham Brown Road and Alta Vista Dr. in Eagle Point.

One vehicle was reported traveling at extremely high speeds, driving recklessly prior to the collision and was found to be a recently stolen vehicle out of Medford.

The suspect vehicle ran through the stop sign at the intersection and collided with a second vehicle, a 2000 Ford one-ton pickup, was being driven by 59 year old David Glen Cain, of Eagle Point.

Preliminary information indicates the suspect driver, Alfred Walker, had a blood alcohol level nearly twice the legal limit.

All were transported to the Asante Regional Medical Center. Their conditions are not immediately known.

Jackson County Sheriff’s Office is handling the crash scene and the case will be referred to the Jackson County District Attorney’s Office for review of charges including: DUII-alcohol, Assault II, Reckless Driving and Recklessly Endangering Another Person. 54 year old Alfred Walker was cited as he was not released from the hospital for lodging.

The Medford Police Department is investigating the robbery case involving the stolen car and the three suspects were cited for 2nd Degre Robbery and Unlawful Use of a Motor Vehicle as they were not able to be released for lodging in jail.

All were transported to the Asante Regional Medical Center. Their conditions are not immediately known. Jackson County Sheriff’s Office is handling the crash scene.
