With One of the Lowest Covid-19 Infection Rates, Oregon Continues Restrictions

Oregon COVID-19 infection rates have averaged less than 500 cases per day for the first time since late last year. Oregon continues to hold one of the lowest infection rates in the nation with now 155,000 cases. Hospitalizations slowed with 51 fewer individuals requiring hospitalization in the past week than the week prior, adding only 167 individuals requiring hospitalization, raising the statewide total to 8,570. 55 individuals succumbed to COVID-19 in the past week, making the total deaths for the entire state of Oregon, 2,206 since the pandemic began.

According to a press release from the Curry County Public Health Administrator Sherrié Ward earlier in the week, during the reporting period of February 16th through February 22nd, Curry County Public Health received notification of 36 new confirmed COVID-19 cases.

Under Governor Brown’s framework for assessing the risked posed by the spread of COVID-19, this active increase in COVID-19 cases has moved Curry County from Low Risk to Moderate Risk became effective as of Friday, February 26th. The Governor’s risk assessment matrix will now increase Curry County restrictions on some business and personal activities.

Curry County’s latest numbers as reported Friday by the Oregon Health Authority, February 26th, now reports testing 8,505 individuals with 8,160 negative tests, 345 total positive COVID-19 tests and after adding 18 new cases in the last week has recorded 424 total cases and now 6 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic.

Del Norte County Department of Health and Human Services reported testing 12,980 with 11,986 negative results, 42 active cases and 994 total confirmed cases reported by Public Health, with 1 current hospitalization and now 7 deaths.

Coos County to the north, reported testing 32,504 individuals last week with now 1,440 total positive cases and 19 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic.

Josephine County reports testing 46,569 individuals with 44,381 negative results, 2188 total positive cases of COVID-19 and now 49 deaths.

Humboldt County to the south of Del Norte County reports 3,180 total cases after testing 73,561 individuals with 70,381 negative results, 126 active cases, 3,021 recoveries, 133 hospitalizations, and 33 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic as of Friday, February 26th.

Jackson County continues to see significant increases after testing 174,484 individuals with 164,006 negative test results, 8,315 total cases of COVID-19 with now 111 deaths as of Friday, February 26th.
