The Josephine County Sheriff’s Office received a report Sunday afternoon, March 6th, that a person had witnessed a murder on Lakeshore Drive in Selma, Oregon. Josephine County Sheriff’s Deputies, with Troopers from the Oregon State Police, immediately responded and upon arrival to the reported location, found two deceased persons in the driveway of a residence.
An armed person then confronted Deputies and Troopers leading to a standoff which lasted almost an hour. Despite repeated efforts by authorities to deescalate a rapidly devolving and dangerous situation, Deputies were eventually in a situation requiring them to fired their weapons.
Deputies on scene provided medical aid to the armed person who was then transported to an area hospital where he remains in stable condition. No Deputies were injured during the incident, and per standard procedure, the two Deputies who fired their weapons have been placed on paid administrative leave.
The Josephine County Major Crimes Team has been activated to investigate this incident. The Grants Pass Police Department is the lead investigative agency for the officer involved shooting while Oregon State Police is the lead investigative agency for the two deceased persons located at the scene.
