The Humboldt County Drug Task Force received information in July regarding an individual selling narcotics in the Eureka area of Humboldt County.
Agents with the Humboldt County Drug Task Force were able to locate the individual, identified as 29 year old Riley Wilson Bean, in a public area accompanied by another individual. Agents identified the individual with Bean as 31 year old Matthew Robert Williams, from previous contacts and investigations.
Both Bean and Williams were on felony probation for trafficking narcotics with Bean having felony warrant for his arrest.
Bean and Williams were surveilled by Agents as they traveled through the Broadway area of Eureka, observing Williams and Bean appearing to make “hand to hand” drug sales with the people they encountered.
In the large parking lot of a business in Eureka, Bean entered a vehicle that was occupied by two additional subjects, while Williams stayed on foot in the area. Humboldt County Drug Task Force Agents and Officers with the Eureka Police Department moved in and surrounded the vehicle that Bean was inside of and Bean was detained without incident.
Williams fled on foot eastbound towards Spring Street as Bean was being detained, and Agents pursued Williams on foot, eventually catching him as he physically resisted Agents as they attempted to place him under arrest. After a short struggle, Williams was placed in handcuffs and secured in the back of an Eureka Police patrol vehicle.
Eureka Police Department K9 Bohdi then conducted an “open air sniff” where Bean was located inside of the vehicle alerting to the back seat of the vehicle where Bean was sitting, indicating drugs and/or firearms were present. Humboldt County Drug Task Force Agents searched the area that Bean was seated in the vehicle and located ¼ pound of fentanyl, 550 Xanax bars, 10 grams of heroin, 10 grams of methamphetamine, packaging materials, and a digital scale.
An “open air sniff” was then performed by Eureka Police Department K9 Bolo on Williams’ vehicle where K9 Bolo alerted near the front of Williams’ vehicle indicating that drugs and/or firearms were present. Agents searched the vehicle and located an additional 10 grams of heroin.
Riley Wilson Bean was arrested and transported to the Humboldt County Jail where he was booked on charges including Possession of a designated controlled substance fore sales and PRCS Violation Felony Warrant.
Williams was arrested and transported to the Humboldt County Jail where he was booked on multiple charges including Possession of narcotics, Resisting/Obstructing a Peace Officer, Probation violation, and Possession of burglary tools.
