19 Year Old Woman Arrested After Car Chase and Stand-off

On Monday, January 7, just after 3:30 am, a Jackson County Sheriff’s deputy attempted to stop a 2000 Cadillac Escalade for traffic violations on Highway 238 near Humbug Creek Road. The vehicle accelerated and continued to a residence in the 100-block of Humbug Creek Road.

19-year-old Shayna Joy Stanford

The female driver, later identified as 19-year-old Shayna Joy Stanford, parked the vehicle in the driveway and ran into the residence. She reappeared at the doorway moments later pointing a rifle outside.

Stanford refused to come out of the home. Deputies negotiated with Stanford for approximately 15 minutes and after a short standoff, with the assistance of her parents, Stanford stepped outside. Stanford then physically resisted arrest before being taken into custody. The weapon was determined to be a pellet gun, and nobody was injured.

Stanford was lodged in the Jackson County jail on the following charges: driving under the influence of intoxicants (alcohol); reckless driving; attempting to elude police in a vehicle; attempting to elude police on foot; menacing; resisting arrest.
