Commercial Fishing Vessel Catches Fire in Brookings Harbor

Shortly before 11:00am U.S.Coast Guard station Chetco River responded to a vessel on fire across the comercial boat bason basin from the station.

Both Chetco River station Motor Life Boats were able to get water on the 85 foot “Miss Pacific” utilizing their fire pumps. No one was on board the vessel at the time of the fire.

U.S. Coast Guard Station crews assist in extinguishing boat fire

BRAVO ZULU to our shipmates at U.S. Coast Guard Station Chetco River for their part in extinguishing a boat fire that ignited in Brookings, Oregon today at approximately 10 a.m.U.S. Coast Guard Sector North Bend initially received a report that a vessel caught fire while moored to the pier. Station Chetco River was informed and responded.The Station Chetco River crew launched two 47-foot motor lifeboats and used water pumps to assist local first responders in a joint effort to extinguish the flames.#ProtectingThePNW #MissionMonday

Harbor Fire Department, Brookings Fire Department, Smith River Fire and Gold Beach Fire departments responded to the scene and arrived to thick black smoke and visible flames.

A witness to the incident reports that the fire was noticed just before 10:00am and reportedly started below deck before spreading to the net roll at the stern of the vessel.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
