At approximately 9:00pm on Tuesday, November 5th, Humboldt County Drug Task Force special agents with the with the assistance of the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office, conducted a traffic stop on Highway 299 near Blue Lake according to a press release from the Humboldt County Drug Task Force.
During a multi-week investigation, agents received information that one of the occupants of the vehicle, 56 year old Aaron Anthony Nelson, is distributing heroin throughout Humboldt County.
Through their investigation, Humboldt County Drug Task Force agents were able to secure a search warrant for Nelson and his vehicle. During the traffic stop, Nelson detained by agents without incident.
Also present inside the vehicle was 38 year old Kathlene Crystal Mellon and 57 year old Paul Kenneth McElroy. Agents searched Nelson’s vehicle pursuant to the search warrant and agents also discovered digital scales, packaging material, and other drug paraphernalia as well as nearly one pound of suspected heroin packaged for sales.
Mellon and McElroy were cited and released on their own recognizance for various narcotics offenses. Nelson was subsequently placed under arrest and transported to the Humboldt County Correctional Facility where he was booked for possession and transportation of controlled substances for sales and probation violation.
