Early Friday morning, September 27th, the Illinois Valley Fire District, Illinois Valley CERT and American Medical Response responded to a single vehicle crash at the intersection of Rockydale Rd and Waldo Rd. When the first unit arrived on scene it was obvious that the vehicle was also on fire. At that time Oregon Department of Forestry was requested.
A Preliminary investigation revealed that a 2016 Subaru was eastbound on Rockydale Rd. when it crossed over Waldo Rd and collided with an embankment. A passerby removed the driver and passenger from the vehicle prior to it becoming fully engulfed.
The operator sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased.
The passenger, 31 year old Jameson Eckert of Cave Junction, was transported to Three Rivers Medical Center in Grants Pass with serious injuries.
Oregon State Police are investigating the cause of the crash.
